Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme created by The Broke and The Bookish. For more information on the weekly topics, take a look over here.

This week is about the best books of the year so far! I’ve read 34 so far (nearly finished with the 35th) and there have been some incredible books that have reignited my love of reading.

T H E  H A T E  U  G I V E // hands down my favourite book of the year! For a debut novel, it was beautifully written and so engaging. I cried, I was angered, I felt everything and I just adored this story. I can’t wait for more from Angie Thomas. Read my review here.

O F  F I R E  A N D  S T A R S // this is the book that got me back into reading. A standalone fantasy story with two girls in love by a queer woman author. The first story I’d ever read with gay girls and definitely not the last!

H O W  T O  M A K E  A  W I S H // I requested this book from the publisher via Netgalley because I knew there was a queer girl romance but once I started reading I was automatically swept into this world with brilliant and unapologetic characters dealing with some of the hardest of situations and coming out the either side stronger than ever. Read my review here.

A  D A R K E R  S H A D E  O F  M A G I C // I’d been hearing about this series for ages, hearing it praised by booktubers and reviewers everywhere, and when I finally got my hand on a copy, there was no doubting how fantastic this book is. I haven’t had a chance to read the rest of the trilogy yet but I have high expectations!

O N E  O F  U S  I S  L Y I N G // a brilliant murder mystery that kept me guessing all the way through. It also explored abusive relationships, entitlement and homophobia in one of the best ways I’ve read so far. Read my review here.

N O T  Y O U R  S I D E K I C K // bisexual girls + superheroes? Instant classic. This book is so full of diversity in race and sexuality and wonderfully written to boot! I didn’t want to finish it because then it would be over and I’d have to leave the world. I’m so excited for C.B. Lee’s sequel Not Your Villian, which is supposed to be released by the end of the year.

W E  A R E  O K A Y // a story that broken my heart. Nina LaCour writes such fantastic prose, eloquent and beautiful and emotive. For making me feel all the things, this book is worth the high acclaim. Read my review here.

A  M O N S T E R  C A L L S // completely immersive and utterly heartbreaking. I read it in one sitting and I still remember what page I was on when I was destroyed emotionally: page 219.

T H E  S T A R – T O U C H E D  Q U E E N // so lyrically written, this was difficult to get into at first but once you got through the dense and beautiful prose, there was this fantastic magical world and wonderful love story.

M O N S T E R S  O F  V E R I T Y  D U O L O G Y // technically cheating with this because it’s two books BUT one story so I’m going with it. It was such an imaginative idea, wonderfully written and the story in itself is so brilliant. I enjoyed reading both parts and still want more in the world of Verity. Read my review for Our Dark Duet (the second book in the duology) here.
